We thought it might be interesting to look at how the five venues in the World Fly Fishing Championships performed this week in terms of rods and catches when tested by the best anglers in the world.

It doesn’t make very comfortable reading for Loch Leven, home of fly-fishing and the so-called queen of Scottish lochs. It performed consistently poorly. Loch Awe, another popular venue celebrated for its monster ferox trout, struggled even to compete with the Tay, a river where trout are decidedly second-class citizens to salmon and even grayling.

The two stocked fisheries delivered as expected, Menteith seemingly happily restored to prime position following the mysterious deaths of its stock two months ago.
