As a general guide a short-stay independent visit including flights, car hire, accommodation, permits and boat hire may cost from around £1000 per head based on four sharing transport and a self-catering chalet.  Some package operators may offer better deals.

Accommodation:

Nuorgam Lomakeskus Holiday Resort offers chalet cottages from £34-£50 per night (2007 summer season prices) and has an English website  or email Marjatta Holmberg at nuorgamin.lomakeskus@luukku.com.  She issues permits and will organise local guides if necessary.

 The Hotel Luossajohka overlooking the Utsjoki river – a major tributary of the Teno – specialises in fishing holidays. A bed and breakfast in a twin room costs from £65 per person per night. 

Fishing Permits:

Often included in package deals, but also available from a range of local outlets. The salmon season runs from 5 June to 20 August.  Download a detailed guide in English to  the river.

Two types are needed: (1) a general management fee which costs £4.00 for a week and (2) a daily permit which starts at 7pm.   The daily rates range from £14.00 bank only to £24.00 for a licence covering both bank and boat fishing. 

Only local guides are permitted to take boats into the Alaköngäs rapids; a guide will charge around £30.00 daily for rowing and hire of  boat and equipment.  No fishing from 7 pm on Sunday to 7 pm on Monday.
