{"id":995,"date":"2010-11-26T18:46:39","date_gmt":"2010-11-26T17:46:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bxttlines.wordpress.com\/?p=995"},"modified":"2010-11-26T18:46:39","modified_gmt":"2010-11-26T17:46:39","slug":"spurgog-tagging-weekend-attracts-100-anglers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/btl.longlinemedia.co.uk\/index.php\/2010\/11\/26\/spurgog-tagging-weekend-attracts-100-anglers\/","title":{"rendered":"Spurdog tagging weekend attracts 100 anglers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MORE than 100 anglers fishing from boat, shore and kayaks took part in the third annual two-day Spurdog Tagathon event in the Argyll area of Scotland earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>The organisers, Scottish Sea Anglers Conservation Network (<a title=\"SSACN, opens in new window\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ssacn.org\" target=\"_blank\">SSACN<\/a>) say the number of fish tagged was down a little this year; \u00a0there were many more smaller fish evident.<\/p>\n<p>However, other valuable data was gathered by measuring the length and girth of many catches and taking DNA clippings from their tails.<\/p>\n<p>SSACN&#8217;s Project Leader James Thorburn said the data would help to indicate how isolated the spurdog populations were from each other along the west coast of Scotland and maybe further afield.<\/p>\n<p>Around 60 anglers fished Loch Etive while 40 fished Loch Sunart injecting an estimated \u00a328,500 into the local economy.<\/p>\n<p>SSACN&#8217;s next event, the Skate Tagathon, will take place 8 &#8211; 10 April 2011 around the Crinan area of Argyllshire.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MORE than 100 anglers fishing from boat, shore and kayaks took part in the third annual two-day Spurdog Tagathon event in the Argyll area of Scotland earlier this month.
