{"id":98,"date":"2008-12-19T13:04:29","date_gmt":"2008-12-19T13:04:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bxttlines.wordpress.com\/?p=98"},"modified":"2008-12-19T13:04:29","modified_gmt":"2008-12-19T13:04:29","slug":"scotland-struggles-to-net-junior-anglers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/btl.longlinemedia.co.uk\/index.php\/2008\/12\/19\/scotland-struggles-to-net-junior-anglers\/","title":{"rendered":"Scotland struggles to net junior anglers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>(Full version of a story which first appeared in The Herald in March 2008)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>THE organisers of sea angling in Scotland are struggling to land a team of youngsters to fish for their country against world champions England and the other home nations.\u00a0Just four juniors, aged 12-16 have been recruited for the Scottish team of six to face England, Ireland and Wales at Samphire Hoe near Dover this summer.<\/p>\n<p>Mike Horn, president of the <a title=\"SFSA\" href=\"www.fishbritain.co.uk\/Sea\/SFSA.asp?dom=Scotland\" target=\"_blank\">Scottish Federation of Sea Anglers<\/a>, said today:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have only about three weeks before we start preparations and seeking sponsorship. It is very disappointing that only four candidates have come forward so far.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Ireland selects from 300 children, Wales has about 40 vying for a place while England take a team of eight away for specialist coaching weekends and as a result are world champions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have to cobble something together yet manage to turn in respectable results.
