Perhaps not so.<\/p>\n<p>The <a title=\"RSPB blog, opens in new window\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.rspb.org.uk\/lochgartenospreys\/archive\/2009\/05\/28\/Some-not-so-good-news-now_2C00_-I_2700_m-afraid_2E002E002E002E002E002E00_.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">RSPB in its enjoyable blog<\/a> on the Loch Garten ospreys, yesterday revealed that one of this year\u2019s breeding pair is carrying 40ft of fishing line entangled with its body and says there is another length dangling over the back of the nest.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_427\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-427\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/btl.longlinemedia.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/riverside_refuse.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-427\" title=\"riverside_refuse\" src=\"https:\/\/btl.longlinemedia.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/riverside_refuse.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"' . . . the droppings of the more moronic of our species . . .'\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/btl.longlinemedia.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/riverside_refuse.jpg 500w, https:\/\/btl.longlinemedia.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/riverside_refuse-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-427\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">&#39; . . . the droppings of the more moronic of our species . . .&#39;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The author notes: \u201cThe line has a swivel on it joining two lengths of line of different test and this weight can swing and sway around, so possibly flip over a branch on which he might perch.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 The threat of entanglement to either of the parents or the young is carefully explained.<\/p>\n<p>Clearly an osprey could have encountered the line in the water \u2013 or even attached to a captured fish \u2013 and its loss by any angler could have been accidental rather than a deliberate discard.<\/p>\n<p>But it does illustrate the need for special care and caution on all our parts and a willingness on any expedition to try to ensure that the only things we leave behind are footprints.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>RUBBISH anywhere is a sorry sight.\u00a0 And sadly is a reflection on our society today, one where even a little respect for the places where we live and play,\u00a0 seems to have evaporated.
