{"id":1075,"date":"2011-06-08T12:14:24","date_gmt":"2011-06-08T11:14:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bxttlines.wordpress.com\/?p=1075"},"modified":"2011-06-08T12:14:24","modified_gmt":"2011-06-08T11:14:24","slug":"lochhead-breathtakingly-wrong-say-arran-conservationists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/btl.longlinemedia.co.uk\/index.php\/2011\/06\/08\/lochhead-breathtakingly-wrong-say-arran-conservationists\/","title":{"rendered":"Lochhead &#8216;breathtakingly wrong&#8217; say Arran conservationists"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>IT is comforting to note that I am not alone in identifying the SNP Government in Scotland of being long on rhetoric but coming up short on action when it concerns many aspects of marine conservation.\u00a0 And Richard Lochhead, the fisheries minister stands accused again of being out of touch with reality in the latest newsletter of <a title=\"COAST June 2011 newsletter\" href=\"http:\/\/www.arrancoast.com\/news\/newsletters\/110-june-2011-newsletter.html\" target=\"_blank\">COAST<\/a>, the Arran-based sea conservation organisation.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 345px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.arrancoast.com\/images\/stories\/2011newsletters\/lamlashfishingfestival.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" \" title=\"Lamlash Fishing Festival\" src=\"http:\/\/www.arrancoast.com\/images\/stories\/2011newsletters\/lamlashfishingfestival.jpg\" alt=\"Lamlash Fishing Festival\" width=\"345\" height=\"250\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">THE WAY WE WERE: Arran&#039;s Lamlash Fishing Festival in its 1960s heydays<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It takes Lochhead to task in no uncertain terms for refusing to legislate against Clyde scallop dredging and calls his comments on the subject: &#8220;breathtakingly wrong.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The newsletter, which always delivers a thoughtful view, notes: &#8220;Soon after it became clear that the Scottish National Party had secured a historic majority in Holyrood, Alex Salmond announced that he would rule for \u2018all the people who imagine we can live in a better land.\u2019 It is a worthy vision, but for now it seems the First Minister rules primarily for those with short-term commercial interests when it comes to scallop fisheries regulation.
