{"id":1043,"date":"2011-04-21T09:53:10","date_gmt":"2011-04-21T08:53:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bxttlines.wordpress.com\/?p=1043"},"modified":"2011-04-21T09:53:10","modified_gmt":"2011-04-21T08:53:10","slug":"has-your-candidate-signed-the-salmon-pledge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/btl.longlinemedia.co.uk\/index.php\/2011\/04\/21\/has-your-candidate-signed-the-salmon-pledge\/","title":{"rendered":"Has your candidate signed the salmon pledge?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>IT IS heartening today to see two organisations calling for our politicians to stand up and be counted \u2013 at least as far as supporting the future of our wild fish are concerned.<\/p>\n<p>As I suggested <a title=\"Opinion: Why it\u2019s time for a sea change in\u00a0politics\" href=\"http:\/\/bxttlines.wordpress.com\/2011\/01\/17\/opinion-why-its-time-for-a-sea-change-in-politics\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a> at the beginning of the year, that action to put our politicians on the spot on the future of angling, whether for sea, game or coarse fish, is long overdue.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_967\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-967\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-967 \" title=\"Salmon netting\" src=\"https:\/\/btl.longlinemedia.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/usan-fisheries.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/btl.longlinemedia.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/usan-fisheries.jpg 1840w, https:\/\/btl.longlinemedia.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/usan-fisheries-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/btl.longlinemedia.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/usan-fisheries-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/btl.longlinemedia.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/usan-fisheries-1024x681.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-967\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Many threats to wild fish are man-made<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The ASFB\u00a0 (Association of Salmon Fishery Boards) and RAFTS (Rivers and Fisheries Trusts of Scotland) have clearly been listening and while not going so far as to call for sponsorship of Holyrood or Westminster MPs, they have seized the chance to capitalise on next month\u2019s Scottish elections.<\/p>\n<p>The two organisations have launched a campaign inviting all candidates to sign a pledge committing to protect wild salmon and sea trout.\u00a0 As of yesterday just 23 had. The first to put their hands up are listed below.\u00a0 It looks like the SNP is just ahead in sign-up stakes.
